Audio File with a 8 BIT format found (can’t be played back) – Logic Pro Help.「Samplism」をMac App Storeで

To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question. Some of the regions that were fine previously stopped playing and I’ve lost the tracks that I recorded on Saturday. After recording I bounced a project to send my friend a rough mix, but when I got home and checked it on different speakers, I decided to tweak it a bit.
That’s when I noticed some of the files were gone. How could this happen? Posted on Dec 18, PM. Page content loaded. I have contacted Apple support and uploaded files for the investigation.
I will update the post if new details are uncovered. Dec 19, AM. I just opened a project recording Nov 29th and had the same problem – logic found 8 bit audio and can’t read them. The recording was a string quartet — this could be very expensive Dec 20, PM.
Dec 21, AM in response to marc In response to marc As I recall Logic displays the 8-bit file message when it can’t read the audio file header. Dec 21, AM. Thanks, Pancenter. I have checked the disk for errors and none were found. I used Soundhack app to restore the audio file header and it partially worked. I’ve managed to make the file playable again but I couldn’t figure out a way to remove the digital noise.
Looks like the data is still intact, but the capabilities of sound hack does not cover the particular format. File is too large to upload somewhere? I have a PC used for mastering that has a fairly complete set of audio tools.
Or if you have a smaller file that’s corrupted in the same manner I can take a look at. You can reach me at yahoodotcom mail using my screen name.
Dec 22, PM. Backup is also corrupted must have happened when logic closed this is a serious bug seems to be affecting High sierra only. Jan 1, PM. I imported the file as as Raw Data then selected “Signed bit little-endian See if that works for you. Note: since you know the format of your files, you will need to import using the original format.
Yep, VERY frustrating. I just starting encountering this problem a few days ago and it has set me back hours upon hours on projects. If this keeps happening I may switch away from Logic and not look back. Apple needs to fix this ASAP. Jan 2, AM. Jan 2, AM in response to kmbrown05 In response to kmbrown You need to send Feedback to Apple via the Logic Program, this is a users forum and your messages will not be seen or addressed. Also, this has happened before, years ago, possibly before Apple purchased Logic from eMagic at version 5.
I remember a scenario where Logic audio files were saved and the program came up with the same 8-bit message when trying to reload the project. This error only affected the Mac version, not the PC version.
Logic was cross-platform back then. Somehow the file headers are getting messed up. I had it happen once on November 29th with an expensive string quartet. I’ve had lots of sessions since, and no problems other than that one. An apple support person reached me privately and I provided example files that were corrupted. Haven’t heard anything since. Jan 2, PM. Ok, so the problem got worse. Just tried re-recording everything that was lost It was not perfectly played in any case.
After I rebooted the system half of the new files got corrupted. As long as this problem persists I can’t do any work on my Mac. This is just terrible. Jan 3, AM. Your situation sounds like a possible hardware failure. That sounds like hardware. Actually I’ve listened to the files you’ve recovered on several devices – it is not distortion, it’s the background noise.
Like white or pink. It’s similar to what you’ll get by cranking up mic preamp level. I’ve checked again on my Windows laptop – it’s definitely present. The recording was digital in nature – it was done through kemper – so there was absolutely no noise. The problem on my mac may be hardware fault, but this is not an argument in support of this theory. Jan 3, PM. Feb 5, AM. Communities Get Support. Sign in Sign in Sign in corporate. Browse Search. Board index Music Software Logic Pro. Audio File with a 8 BIT format found can’t be played back. If it’s possible, I would like to get one answer from David I liked the way he explains stuff I spent more than six hours reading through this forum, trying to find an answer to what’s going on with a file that was recorded, edited, bounced, etc I found some posts that I think are related to the same subject – Is it what is referred to as the “8 bit bug”?
If the answer is yes, does Logic Pro 7. How will I explain to the guitar player I’m producing that part of his take is gone???? Please, Help!!!! Thanks, CNMF. Logic 9. David Nahmani Site Admin.
Wed Nov 23, am I’m afraid that’s the 8 bit bug. I’ve never encountered it myself but keep hearing about it. So supposedly in 7. One last thing: at least it should show you how important back-ups are.
Sure, that’s a nasty bug you just encountered, but bugs are the nature of software, and failures happen in hardware. They are so many other reasons you could have lost those guitar takes hard drive failure being the one most often responsible for lost Audio Files.
Make sure you develop a backup system that’s easy to perform on a regular basis and keep doing it!! Good luck. And sorry for your loss. I’m working on the upgrade soon. I totally agree with you in the back up issue and I’m really aware of it.
I’m just waiting to put my hands on it to install, but I have two questions about it: 1 Let’s suppose that I had on HD 2 a back up of the whole song files, including arrange, audio files, etc. Wouldn’t the back up also be corrupted by the 8 Bit bug, once it’s a perfect copy of the original stored on HD1, assuming that when it was stored, it was not corrupted yet?
I didn’t understand what or where the problem happens to corrupt the audio file: Logic or HD?? I think that simply saving the song with all files in HD 1 and HD 2 would be enough. If you have any other methods that work better, please let me know!!! Thank you again CNMF. HD2 is my Logic Projects drive. The external firewire is an exact replica of HD2. When I work on a project, I then backup the whole project folder by dragging it on my firewire drive in the correct location.
I don’t know when the 8bit corruption occured. If the moment you closed Logic, the audio files were corrupted, then no backup system could have prevented you from losing your files: you would then have made a backup of a corrupted file. You’re right, that is a big problem!
